For Every Soul There Is a Story
We are starting a beading program. The women have housing for now, but the funding is running out. Haiti is the most impoverished country in the western hemisphere, and these women are victims of its status. They have no skills or education to provide a living for their families. In about a year's time they will be back on the streets. They need some way to stay afloat. They need to learn a skill to provide income for their families, pay their rent, feed their children, start savings, and send their kids to school. The Lord has graciously provided just that.
Through IMPACT and New Vision I am traveling as an intern to Haiti for 27 days this summer. While it is not a lifetime, I have faith the Lord will use every spare moment weaving together his eternal plan. For 27 days my sweet sister, Lauren, and I will be meeting the women, hearing and recording their stories, assessing their needs, teaching English to their children, meeting the faithful servants who live among them and already share Jesus' love, and practicing with them the craft that we pray will provide sustainable living for each of these beautiful souls.
Spinning beads from recycled paper is an art that takes time, patience, practice, and resources. As you read this, the women there are learning how to create the product that will hopefully become their livelihood. Here in the States, there are four young women who heard their Father's call and did not hesitate to respond. Lauren, Nicole, Caroline, and I have committed to spending at least a year of our lives (and prayerfully longer) creating a business and product that will keep the women in Haiti off the streets and their children warm and fed. All of us are third year Cal Poly students with different gifts graciously given to us by the Lord, and all of us are absolutely committed to seeing the Lord's plan for his daughters in Haiti become a reality. We are on a mission to bring peace and comfort and safety to weary souls.
I have been graciously taught by the Lord that I am no author. I am simply an eternally scribe, forever His witness, forever writing His story down. In Montrouis there are women with stories. He is sending me to them.
